History Channel - 2009

History ChannelThe day the history channel came to Glasgow was a very tiring day for us all. All my guys were there for over 6 hrs just doing stuff in the background, but what you see on the documentary HOW BRUCE LEE CHANGED THE WORLD, is only a very small part of all the action that happened on the day. It took a bit of time just to set things up before we could get into action; once the track was laid and the camera in place then we were off and running.

I demonstrated a few basic things and how they differ from the traditional ideas and ways of thinking. In JKD, we're always trying to cut things short and do less, but don't get me wrong its not that easy. The filming on that day was hard work for my guys anyway, because they were geared up and had to do stuff fast. So after about 4 hrs they started to get a bit tired. I remember one guy making a comment about how they weren't going that fast. I think I said something like, "I would like to see you do better after a few hrs of fast contact closing", but, that's nothing new you always get the ass who thinks he's smart and wants to be heard. Sadly, the world of JKD is full of these faceless nobodies who only wish to have an opinion which in my mind they should just shut up.

History ChannelAnyway, we did stuff in the school, then we went out on the street to film some stuff. The funny thing is with a lot of the shots they did, you couldn't see the camera; so passers by thought we were fighting, it looked that real. Even folk passing on a bus were aghast as they looked at me kicking my son in the groin and him hitting the concrete, but, he was  used to that because he worked on the two fighting games we did for Nokia. He did the stunt work, took the kicks and punches and falls; he did the same on the BBC Foo Action. But, it's always the same when you watch it on the TV, it's never the same as when you filmed it plus they seem to never include the parts that were the best. They always pick the part that you thought wasn't as good.

History ChannelAnyway, I was honoured to be asked to do anything to help promote Bruce's martial art, and to help the Bruce Lee educational foundation keep the spirit of Bruce lee alive.  Bruce lee certainly did change the world, mine anyway.
